Went with James to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve recently. It's located at the northern region of Singapore. Took a while for us to get there, relying totally on our GPS system.
Entrance fee is only $1 per person during weekends & public holidays, otherwise it's free.
Yes! FREE!
The above image isn't mine. I forgot to take a shot of the entrance.
Thank goodness for Google Image Search!
James with his Canon 550D, 18-200mm lens, battery grip, Crumbler neckstrap and a tripod.
He will need a better tripod.
The weather for the past few weeks is gloomy. It practically rain almost everyday since the new year.
Things to bring if you're going to the wetland ... insect repellant ... or rather mosquito repellant/swatter ... anything that can get rid of mozzies, bring it along!
We were just walking along the trail when James called out...
While not the biggest spider I had ever seen thus far, it is the most colourful spider ( i think it's a spider ) i had seen. There's even a baby spider near it's right hind leg. It's call a leg right?!
Further down the trail, I spotted this dragonfly resting on a branch.
I like the rear wings of this dragonfly. With it's greenish and light bluish colours and intricate design.
The head of the dragonfly looks weird to me. It's like a glass ball!
We were walking down the trail merrily, swatting mozzies, scaring ourselves with thoughts of wild animal charging out of the bushes from the side when a dark object appears right in front of us!
A monitor lizard. A HUGH monitor lizard!
Both humans and animal got startled. Humans making high pitch noises and almost wetting themselves. Animal got up and move towards the humans.
Look at the claws!!! The tail is pretty long. Hard to get it fully into frame.
Managed to get this shot with the tongue out! Tasty humans?
Getting really close to us now. James was calling out .. "Get back!"
What do we know? The lizard can lift and stretch their head up!
If they had wings, I'll call it a dragon instead! Posing for the camera!
It's probably checking us out. Potential dinner but too high in cholesterol.
Bah! We are not worth his effort. And thus it moved off away from us.
With the monster gone, we proceed down the trail.
Birds taking a sip of water from a nearby pond.
Mudskipper taking a nap in the small puddle of water in the mangroves swamp!
When suddenly it "jumped" out of the puddle and start "hopping" and "paddling" across the mud!
Kinda cute as well. Wonder how they would taste when properly cooked ... hmmm
Not far from the mudskipper, I spotted this crab with the purple claw! It's clutching on to the leaf and drinking/eating water/food from it!
This place is infested with crabs, mudskippers and tiny marine life. Saw this crab with a yellow claw! Who will win a fight? Purple or yellow?
The trip was pretty fun. The close encounter with the monitor lizard makes it absolutely worthwhile.
Our battle scars at the end of the trip would be the terrible itch on our hands and legs.
May the mozzies we killed rest in peace.
Like to say a big thank you to Ah Foo for lending me his Sigma 70-300!
